The excitement in the air is electrifying! The dogs are
barking, the people are yelling and counting down and I've got more
Goosebumps than you can shake a stick at.

out of the starting gate these dogs are so pumped. They are
happiest when they are pulling a sled. |

During the duration of the Iditarod the dogs will be fed a
4,000 calorie meal three times per day just to keep up with the energy
they expend during the race. 1,049 miles through Alaska's toughest
terrain, the dogs will pull a sled simulating a daring rescue when a
much needed serum had to be delivered to Nome in 1925 during the winter
when no other form of transportation could get through.
